Registration for the 5th Annual KidLitCon is NOW OPEN!

We are pleased to tell you that the fifth annual KidLitCon will be held in vibrant downtown Seattle, WA on September 16 and 17, 2011 at Hotel Monaco.
Your hosts are Colleen Mondor (Chasing Ray) and Jackie Parker (Interactiver Reader), who are ecstatic to announce that this year’s keynote speaker will be the incomparable Scott Westerfeld.
Based on popular demand, for the first time, we will be expanding the conference into two days with a new half-day “pre-conference” on Friday.  Check out this year’s slate of presentations here!

We’ve chosen Hotel Monaco because it is beautiful, comfortable, and unique. It is also intimate, and that means on the smaller side. KidLitCon will basically have the run of the place for the weekend, which should be fun, but we recommend making your hotel reservations as soon as possible. We’ve secured a group rate for conference attendees of $165 at night for their standard guestroom. This includes a number of rooms with two queen beds so sharing is certainly an option.

Hotel rate:
$165.00 1-2 people
$180.00 3 people
$195.00 4 people to a room
(plus tax and incidentals)

The rates are also available three nights before and three nights after the two conference nights, so feel free to come early or stay late! Keep in mind, however, that registering for the conference is NOT reserving a hotel room. Part of being able to afford a hotel as nice as this is that in our contract we agreed that conference attendees would fill a certain number of their rooms. To reserve call Hotel Monaco at (206) 516-5097 OR (800)KIMPTON and say that you are booking with the 2011 Kidlitosphere Conference. This will ensure you get the discounted room, and we honor our contract with them. You must book your hotel room BEFORE August 24, 2011 to get this rate and to count toward our block.

Registration will max out at 190 attendees.

The Money:
Before August 15:
  • $125 Full Conference, including pre-con and Saturday with dinner
  • $30 Pre-Conference
  • $95 Saturday, including dinner
  • $75 Saturday, without dinner
  • FREE Friday Night Meet & Greet
  • $45 Saturday dinner (extra diner or only)

After August 15th, everything increases by five dollars. The last day to register is August 31st.

The Pre-con: Includes coffee, tea, water, and a substantial afternoon snack
Conference Day: Lunch, Buffet Dinner (with meat and vegetarian options) and both morning and afternoon snacks as well coffee, tea, and water throughout the day.

If space is still available, onsite registration will be possible for $80 but will not include the dinner on Saturday night as those reservations will close on August 31. Pre-con price remains the same.

The Friday Night Meet & Greet will be free**, but you must register for it, as we need to be prepared for refreshments.

Overnight parking for guests is $39.00 per day plus tax Monday-Friday, and $36.00 per day plus tax Friday-Sunday with in and out privileges. Hotel Monaco is only one block from a light rail stop with a direct link to the airport. Unfortunately, it is on the wrong side of a hill if you are heading for the hotel, so we recommend sensible arrival shoes.

**Friday night’s festivities are free only to guests attending the conference. Interested KidLit peeps may attend, but it’s $15 per person. Which is a steal. I know, ‘cause I see how much everything costs.

Amazingly, I was already thinking of heading out to Seattle to visit a friend over that weekend! So this may be fate! But can you give a little more detail about what constitutes the difference between the "pre-conference" and the regular conference sessions? Will there be a difference in subject, or is it just that the "pre-conference" is on Friday? Thanks!

Hi Karen, sorry about the delayed response. You raise an excellent question. Initially, we were hoping to focus more on basic blogging information. However, since this is such a community-driven event and the community itself supplies the content by submitting session proposals, I think that you'll find there will be sessions for everyone on both days. It's less of a pre-conference, and more of an extension of the conference itself.

Hi there! Trying to figure out my flight schedule. What time do things start on Friday? Also, is Saturday 9-5?

Hi Michelle,

Registration starts at noon on Friday, and Saturday is going to be a LONG day with registration starting at 7:15, and sessions going until almost 6pm.
